Middle School

6th - 8th Grades

Transitioning towards Independence

Middle school is a time in which students are transitioning from full dependence on their teachers to growing into self-disciplined learners. Core subjects are taught on a university style schedule throughout the week.  Independent learning is cultivated through student-led interests studies during our discovery learning block. These middle schoolers are preparing to become disciplined learners for our rigorous high school program.

Academic Core

Each child is designed beautifully and uniquely, so there is no one-size-fits-all for maximum learning. A customized learning plan is created with the input of students, teachers, and parents.

Table Time

Our middle school curriculum covers the same core topics as our elementary students with the primary difference is that we are transitioning them become independent learners. One on one and small group sessions will only be a few times per week for each topic. We will maintain our focus on mastery and allow students to self-pace. Our mixed-aged classroom will enable middle school students to become leaders in discussions of literature, science, and social studies while science is a continuation of our hands-on learning. All concepts are founded in Biblical principles, putting Christ at the center of all creation!

Learning Centers

When students are not at Table Time, they are rotating through various learning centers to reinforce or introduce concepts of each subject. Our learning center time is just as important as our table time. Each center falls under one of four categories: Finishing, Assignments, Independent Learning, and Your Choice. The purpose of these centers are to allow students to finish assignments and not feel rushed, practice specific skills, begin to learn time management, and build strategic thinking skills. Centers can include online activities, art activities, games, and more!

Beyond The Core

Each child is designed beautifully and uniquely, so there is no one-size-fits-all for maximum learning. A customized learning plan is created with the input of students, teachers, and parents.

Discovery Learning

How do you learn about anything? This is the goal of discovery learning. Discovery Learning is the opportunity for students to take the lead and learn about topics that interest them! Students’ natural ability to wonder and be curious is encouraged in this program. Here they will learn how to narrow down topics and ideas, locate the appropriate resources for information, set learning goals and communicate their knowledge to others. Skills for lifelong learning are created here!

Clubs

Students are allowed to participate in up to two clubs per quarter. On designated Monday afternoons we will host a speech club through NCFCA, the National Christian Forensic Communications Association. This club helps students to become confident and competent communicators through various styles and formats of public speaking. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in book clubs, writing clubs and brain games clubs as well as form clubs based on collaborative interests!

Special Area

Every Friday after lunch students will rotate through three special areas: music, art and physical education. Each class is formated on a quarterly basis and designed to grow students in mind, body and soul! Our unique physical education classes get students out and moving in the community through hiking, bowling, and more!
